The Rural Education Society (RES) College has been a cornerstone of education in rural areas in Karnataka. However, the library, which holds around 5,000 valuable and rare books over 50 years old, faced significant accessibility challenges. To address this, the Japanese Automotive Manufacturer, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, partnered with NeoLotex Business Solutions to digitize the library and ensure efficient access for all students.

Challenge

The College’s impressive book collection is underutilised due to outdated formatting, inappropriate organizing and fragile books- making these resources inaccessible to students. This limitation severely impacts their educational experience and also poses a risk to the books’ deterioration. In a rural school context, these challenges slow academic progress and threaten the preservation of invaluable knowledge.

• Accessibility Issues: The library’s unique book collection was inaccessible due to antiquated formatting, significantly hindering students’ ability to locate and use them, thereby affecting their overall educational experience.
• Ineffectiveness and Deterioration: The conventional library system was ineffective and posed a risk to the gradual deterioration of the books, limiting access to valuable information and impacting academic progress and education quality.
• Preservation Threat: The physical deterioration of the old books threatened their preservation, potentially resulting in the permanent loss of priceless knowledge.
